The steps below should help if you believe you are a victim of any of the following situations.

Email Hacking

  1. Change all of your online passwords
  2. Take your computer to have it professionally cleaned
  3. Contact the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center

Identity Theft

  1. Review credit reports and place a fraud alert on them
  2. Close accounts you know or suspect were tampered with
  3. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
  4. File a police report where the identity theft took place (and bring a copy of the FTC complaint form)
  5. Notify all financial institutions that there has been a breach of PII so they can place the proper restrictions on your accounts
  6. Obtain identity protection (i.e. LifeLock)
